Hello all,

I only bought a road bike back in mid April but have since clocked about 2500 miles including the British End to End just last week. Now I'm not saying this to brag, I am by no means a pro, it's more to give you an idea of my fitness before I ask which day/evening would be best to meet some of you for a ride out?
I've never been a cycle club member but am now looking for new people to ride with and hopefully pick up some valuable tips from more seasoned riders so thought a club might be the best thing. I intend to have a go at riding some sportives, perhaps the Stratford one in August if anyone is going.

Cheers,

Matt

Best place to start is to turn up on a Saturday morning at Warwick Castle gates before 9am - we're a sociable bunch so just introduce yourself when you arrive. If you are comfortable with riding in the group, the distance and the pace, then consider the Sunday ride (for something longer and faster) and the mid-week rides (for something faster still), however these are generally aimed at people with at least some group riding experience looking to improve. More details under "Club Rides", above.

Thanks for that Richard, if it stops raining i'll see what this Saturday is all about for starters.
Hard to know if my opinion of distance & pace fits with the club rides so will have to suck it & see!

Just realised I can't edit my posts....

I think the riding as a useful group member will be my first challenge rather than my physical abilities.

It's not necessarily about being useful but rather safe on a group ride. This is not a definitive guide but the link below might help explain the basics of group riding etiquette and some of the shouts, signals etc.

Matt

Sounds like you're fitness will be fine and a Saturday ride would be a good starting point. Don't tell Richard but I think he is right.

In terms of riding with a group you can also check our Clubrun Guidelines which you can download from the Club Rides page.
Hope to see you on Saturday although it may be a brief meeting as I am running a family bbq later that day so will not be doing the whole ride.

Regards
Steve

Steve,

Thanks for that, I had a good look around the pages on the site for rules, tips etc, most of which I'm familiar with. I hope join and to ride with club riders because some of the people I ride with are so inconsistent I you can't ride behind them, it's frustrating and dangerous.
Hope to see you Saturday.

Regards,
Matt

Good link, thank you. I think I meant just not to be useless, i.e. safe & almost part of a team, anyway, Steve says you're right either way

What group size do you normally see on a Saturday?
